May 10, 2025: India’s water infrastructure or water treatment chemical market has been estimated to be valued at $2.8 billion by 2025, according to the latest report by financial services organisation Prabhudas Lilladher. India’s water treatment chemicals market has been valued at $1.70 billion in 2022 and is anticipated to project robust growth with a CAGR of 7.52% through 2025.
The report stated that about 1450 km3 of water will be required by the year 2050; out of which approximately 75% will be used in agriculture, 7% for drinking water, 4% in industries and 9% for energy generation. The water infrastructure industry is segmented into various categories of water treatment chemicals, including coagulants and flocculants, corrosion and scale inhibitors, biocides and disinfectants, pH adjusters, chelating agents and others. Each segment addresses specific water treatment challenges and requirements. Ion Exchange, Thermax and Aarti Industries are the leading water treatment chemicals market in the country.
The Indian plastic pipe market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.3% from 2022 to 2027, reaching an estimated value of $10.9 billion. The demand for piped water supply in India has been observed to be enormous, driven by population growth, rapid urbanisation and increasing awareness about hygiene and sanitation. Urban areas in India are experiencing significant demand for piped water supply due to population influxes and industrial growth. The Indian government has launched several initiatives to improve water supply infrastructure across the country, including the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). By Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the estimated wastewater generation was almost 39,600 million litre per day (MLD) in rural regions, while in urban regions it was estimated to be 72,368 MLD for the year 2020-21. Namami Gange Programme is an Integrated Conservation Mission, approved as a Flagship Programme by the Union Government of India in June 2014 with a budget outlay of Rs 22,500 crore from 2023–26 to accomplish the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of National River Ganga.
