The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has approved a proposal for a 35,000-capacity stadium near the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. The stadium will be developed by Lotus Greens Constructions at Sector 150. UPCA accepted the proposal through a letter to the developer on March 25, 2023.
Uttar Pradesh has two stadiums in Kanpur and Lucknow with a capacity to host international level cricket. Two more stadiums, each in Varanasi and Ghaziabad, are in the pipeline.
Along with the letter, a list of basic requirements and facilities has been shared with the developer which are mandatory for any stadium to be recommended by the UPCA for national or international events, UPCA chief executive officer Ankit Chatterjee said.
If this one in Noida is developed as per specifications and guidelines of ICC and BCCI, it will be the fifth international level cricket stadium in the state, he added.
Lotus Greens Sports City, which will house the stadium, confirmed that they have received approval from the UPCA to develop the stadium. “We have submitted a revised layout plan with the local authority and once it is approved, the project will start and will be ready in three years,” a spokesperson said.
