The upcoming Noida International Airport would be sustainable as well as innovative, said Swiss ambassador to India, Ralf Heckner.
Work is underway to finish Phase-1 of the second airport in the National Capital Region by September 2024 with one terminal building. Spread over 100,000 square kilometre, the Jewar airport will have an annual passenger capacity of 12,000,000 in Phase-I. According to UP minister for industrial development and investment promotion Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, trial run at the Noida airport will start by 2024.
“This will be a very important airport not only for UP but also for the greater area of New Delhi. This is the second airport that Zurich airport is building in India, first in Bangalore and now Noida. It will be a sustainable and very innovative new airport on the Indian soil,” Heckner told news agency PTI.
Located at Jewar, the airport is being developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, in partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government and the Central government.
Meanwhile, the Noida district administration has started the survey to finalise the compensation to farmers, whose lands are being acquired for the second phase of the upcoming airport in Jewar. Phase-II of the airport will be built over 1,365 hectare. Of this, 1,185 hectares are being acquired from an estimated 7,164 affected farmers.
These farmers will be compensated at the rate of Rs 3,400 per square metre and additional benefits under the rehabilitation and resettlement process prescribed in the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
