The upcoming Jewar airport may be ready six months ahead of the planned schedule, according to a top official. “The first phase construction is going on in full swing and we are 6 months ahead of schedule,” Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) CEO Arun Vir Singh told Business Standard.
“The trails of the new airport will start from February-March 2024. As per the DGCA (Directorate-General of Civil Aviation) norms, at least six months of take-off and landing trails should be done before the commencement of flight operations,” Singh added.
Prime minister Narendra Modi, on November 25, 2021, laid the foundation stone for the Jewar Airport in a mega event. In June this year, Tata Projects won the bid to build the Jewar Airport terminal, runways, airside infrastructure, and other ancillary facilities around the airport.
Zurich AG, the concessionaire of the airport project, is hopeful that Phase-I of the Noida International Airport will be ready by September 30, 2024. On completion, the Jewar Airport will cater to 12 million passengers under phase-I.
In the meantime, authorities have started the land acquisition for Phase-II of the second airport in the national capital region. A total of 1,365 hectares is required for Phase 2 of the airport project.
The district administration got an approval from 72% of farmers for land acquisition for Phase 2 of the airport. Provisions of The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, state that the consent of at least 70% owners is required for acquisition.
