J&K allotted additional 1.99 lakh units under PMAY-G

The newly targeted houses will be sanctioned by the rural development department by June 30, 2023.

June 2, 2023: The ministry of rural development has allotted Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) an additional 1.99 lakh houses under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna-Gramin’ (PMAY-G). This move is to saturate the ‘AwaasPlus’ permanent waiting list of the union territory (UT) during 2023-24, according to media reports.

The newly targeted houses will be sanctioned by the rural development department by June 30, 2023. With this, Jammu and Kashmir has received the highest allocation of housing units across all union territories in India, under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna-Gramin’.

“The massive allocation under PMAY (G) will ensure rapid development of rural Jammu and Kashmir,” said Manoj Sinha, lieutenant-governor, Jammu and Kashmir.

Over 3.85 lakh beneficiaries are covered in Jammu and Kashmir under both Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC) and AwaasPlus.  Since the inception of the Housing for All programme, around 1.98 lakh houses have been sanctioned and 1.34 lakh houses have been completed in the UT.
