June 9, 2023: Karnataka housing minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan has proposed the construction of five hi-tech cities also known as satellite cities during the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) review meeting held on June 7, 2023. These are directed to be constructed on 2,000-acre land each and would together consist of around 1.50 lakh sites and 25,000 houses.
According to Khan, this move is because Bangalore has gained international reputation and several VVIPs and industrialists from abroad look to stay in the city permanently, mentioned media reports.
Asking for a detailed plan for the construction of the township and villas, Khan has also directed the officials to identify land for these projects at the earliest.
He also proposed construction of 1,000 luxury villas on 500-acre land in the outskirts of Bangalore. These villas should be developed amidst nature was one of his directives.
The entire project will be implemented in a 50:50 Public Private Partnership (PPP model) with landowners so that land acquisition costs do not become a burden for the KHB.
