The Karnataka Housing Board was established in 1962 as a successor to the Mysore Housing Board

To fulfil the need of housing in the state of Karnataka, the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) was established in 1962, as a successor to the Mysore Housing Board. The board endeavours to provide affordable housing to the people in the state and improve quality of life, by providing state-of-the-art amenities. The housing board now develops both, residential and commercial, properties across the state and offers it at economical prices, with the objective to provide a good standard of living to the citizens of Karnataka.

Karnataka to develop five satellite cities

In the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) review meeting held on June 7, 2023, housing minister B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan proposed the construction of five hi-tech cities. These are planned to be developed on 2,000-acre land each and would together consist of around 1.50 lakh sites and 25,000 houses. Additionally, construction of 1,000 luxury villas on 500-acre land in the outskirts of Bangalore is proposed.  The entire project will be implemented under 50:50 Public Private Partnership (PPP model).

  • To develop better infrastructure and urbanise areas.
  • To improve the quality of living for the people of Karnataka.

The Karnataka Housing Board in Bangalore, through its official portal, provides various online services that include the issuance of sale deeds, approval of building plans, online application for projects, online payments, refunds of the initial deposits, etc.

Karnataka Housing Board schemes

The Karnataka Housing Board functions under the control of the principal secretary, Department of Housing. It is responsible for executing various schemes, for providing housing and accommodation to people at an affordable cost.

For example, the KHB Composite Housing Scheme in Kenchalagudu, Mysore, is a housing project undertaken by the Karnataka Housing Board.

The KHB is responsible for providing affordable housing units under the LIG, MIG and HIG categories.

Main projects by the Karnataka Housing Board

The housing board in Bangalore has come up with the following projects:

Residential project in Hoskote, Bengaluru: Spread over an area of one acre, the building has 68 units to offer in 2BHK and 3BHK configurations. With all modern amenities available here, this is one of the most successful projects by the Board.

Residential project in Swami Vivekananda Nagar: This is another residential project, which is currently under construction and is expected to be ready for possession by June 2022. Around 153 units are available here, in 2BHK and 3BHK formats.

Residential project in Budigere Cross, Bengaluru: This is another project which will be ready for possession by March 2021. The project has three buildings with 593 units of 2BHK and 3BHK apartments.

Residential project in Whitefield, Bengaluru: This project offers plotted developments to home buyers, in a residential colony. Spread over an area of 12 acres, this one of the biggest projects of the KHB.

Apart from these, there are several other residential projects being developed by the KHB, which are currently under-construction. Most of these projects are in Bengaluru.
