December 4, 2023: The newly built Mahakaaran Metro Station on the Kolkata Metro network’s Green Line has been unveiled, which is expected to boost connectivity in the city. The Mahakaaran Metro Station is part of the Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor. It has been designed as per international norms and is equipped with latest features and passenger amenities, including wide concourses, escalators and elevators. The station has been designed to ensure passenger comfort and safety. It has air-conditioned spaces and modern interiors. There are 10 gates and two have been designated for wheelchair-bound passengers.

Mahakaran is one of the four underground metro stations on the corridor’s truncated section from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan, with Esplanade and Mahakaran on the Kolkata side and Howrah Station and Howrah Maidan across the Hooghly. The new Mahakaran Metro Station is strategically located near the BBD Bagh area of Kolkata to cater to the high passenger demand in the region.
Currently, the Kolkata Metro Green Line comprises an operational section from Salt Lake Sector V to Sealdah, which has eight stations. The metro line will be extended to Howrah through an underground line below the Hooghly River and to Teghoria on the eastern side. There will be a total of 17 stations on this corridor.
