Estimated to cost Rs 5,081 crore, the East-West corridor will connect Charbagh to Vasant Kunj.

Lucknow, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh, boasts a functional metro network since 2017 when the Phase 1 corridor was started. There are plans to improve Lucknow’s Metro connectivity with additional proposed lines.

On January 11, 2024, the Uttar Pradesh government gave approval for Phase-2 of the Lucknow Metro, also known as the East-West corridor. The Char Bagh Station that connects the city’s main railway station through the metro link will act as the junction station for the existing north-south corridor and the upcoming east-west corridor of the Lucknow Metro. Providing connectivity to some of the most densely populated areas in the old city, Phase-2 will boost connectivity and real estate prices.

Further, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has plans to add six additional routes on the Lucknow Metro network aimed to significantly boost connectivity in the city. Currently, the Lucknow Metro has a daily ridership of around 8,000 passengers. The daily ridership is expected to more than double to about 2 lakh as the new corridor becomes operational. Apart from providing citizens with a reliable source of connectivity, the Lucknow Metro has also had a positive impact on the city’s real estate market.

The Union Cabinet has approved Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro project. The new corridor will cover 11.165 km, comprising 12 stations with seven underground and five elevated stations. This will take the total length of the Lucknow Metro network to 34 km.

Tenders have been floated by UPMRC to conduct a detailed topographical survey and alignment design of the proposed East-West corridor (Phase 1B) of the Lucknow Metro along with the depot at Hardoi Road, according to a News18 report.
