March 18, 2024: Magicrete, a producer of AAC blocks, construction chemicals and precast construction solutions, today announced the completion of its first mass housing project in Ranchi utilising the 3D modular precast construction system. This project, which includes 1,008 dwelling units, demonstrates cost parity with traditional construction methods while significantly reducing construction time by up to 40%.
In terms of materials, the project utilised Portland Slag Cement with a high percentage of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS), reducing the carbon footprint by approximately 60%. Additionally, M-sand replaced traditional river sand in concrete production, contributing to sustainability efforts. The incorporation of rooftop solar, rainwater harvesting, solar street lights and a sewage treatment plant further underscored the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility. The project was completed within 18 months.
The project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2023, in the presence of Champai Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand. The inauguration was also graced by Hardeep Singh Puri, minister of housing and urban affairs, Sanjay Seth, MP, Ranchi, and Kaushal Kishore, minister of state for ministry of housing and urban affairs.
