May 18, 2023: The Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on May 17, 2023, waived off the additional development charges to be collected retrospective by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The authority was to collect the charges amounting to Rs 332 crore from July 2018 to April 2023.This was towards the development of Pune Metro 3 from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar.
Under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act, authorities can collect such charges for critical infrastructure projects. There was a blanket implementation of the additional development charges, and the waiver is beneficial to both residents and developers.
Suggesting an alternative, the CM asked PMRDA authorities to explore the option of levying additional development charges location-wise, instead of all over PMRDA’s jurisdiction for the current year. A similar process was earlier followed in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Nagpur and Thane.
The CM also approved the PMRDA Budget of Rs 1,926 for FY23-24. The PMRDA gave consent to land transfer of 6.5 acre in Moshi to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for construction of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj memorial. Other projects approved in the meeting includes the Pune Ring Road project, development fund for 11 and 23 villages under the Pune Municipal Authority’s jurisdiction. Funds were allotted for the operation of Pune MetropolitanParivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) buses.
The CM also approved the implementation of the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act 2023 in the PMRDA.
