Modi to inaugurate infra projects worth Rs 38,000 cr in Mumbai

Mumbai Metro lines 2A and 7 among the Rs 38,000 crore infra projects to be inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth Rs 38,000 crore in Mumbai on January 19, 2023.

As part of the agenda, Modi will inaugurate the Mumbai Metro rail lines 2A and 7 worth Rs 12,600 crore at around 6.30 PM and is also expected to take a ride on the metro. He had laid the foundation stone of these metro lines also known as the Yellow line that is 18.6 KM and the Red line that is 16.5 KM in 2015.

National Common Mobility card and Mumbai 1 mobile app

The next in line is the launch of the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) and the Mumbai 1 mobile app. The NCMC is designed to enable cashless travel across public transport anywhere in India. Presently, the NCMC supports Mumbai Metro, BEST buses and Chennai Metro. It will soon be extended to other metros corridors in the country and other modes of public transport including local trains and buses. The Mumbai 1 app is aimed at facilitating easy travel. It can be shown on the entry gates of Mumbai Metro Stations and one can buy online tickets by paying through UPI using the Mumbai 1 app.

Other projects

Modi will also lay the foundation stone of seven sewage treatment plant in Malad, Bhandup, Versova, Ghatkopar, Bandra, Dharavi and Worli with a combined capacity of around 2,460 MLD. The cost of this project is around Rs 17, 200 crore.

The PM will inaugurate 20 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Aapla Dawakhana that is designed to provide essential medical services free of cost to the people. He will also lay the foundation stone for redevelopment of three hospitals in Mumbai in Bhandup, Goregaon (West) and Oshiwara.

In Mumbai, of the total 2050 KM roads, more than 1200 KM of roads are concretized or are in the process of being concretized. However, the remaining 850 KM roads are pain points making road travel a challenge. Modi will launch the road concretisation project for around 400 KM roads in Mumbai which will be developed for around Rs 6,100 crore. The concrete roads will ensure fast travel along with enhanced security.

Finally, Modi will also lay the foundation stone for redevelopment of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. This project to be done at Rs 1,800 crore will decongest the southern heritage node of the terminus, bring in better facilities and also aid in multi-modal integration while conserving and restoring the world famous iconic structure to its past glory.
