MTHL, NMIA to be connected by 7-km coastal highway

The coastal highway construction will be completed in 24 months.

October 6, 2023: The City Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has plans to construct a six-lane coastal highway from Amra Marg to Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL). While the length of the coastal road is 5.8 km, the airport link will span around 1.2 km.

According to a HT report, Kailash Shinde, joint managing director, Cidco, said, “The highway will stretch across 7 km and will connect the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to the upcoming airport. The coastal highway will cost over Rs 700 crore.”

The Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) approved the construction of the coastal highway in a meeting held on August 10, 2023. Around 3,728 mangroves and 196 trees will be impacted because of this project.

The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) granted the CRZ clearance to the project on August 9, 2019, and Cidco approached the Mumbai High Court seeking its approval for cutting of mangroves. On April 25, 2023  the Bombay High Court ordered Cidco to seek fresh clearances from the MCZMA / SEIAA.
