Mumbai-Pune Expressway to cut travel time by 25 minutes

New speed limits have been introduced on the expressway to prevent accidents.

April 23, 2024:  The construction of the 13.3 km Missing Link Project on the Mumbai Pune Expressway from Khopoli exit to Kusgaon is progressing rapidly.  While the tunnelling work of this project that involves two tunnels- 1.67 km and 8.92 km is complete, work is underway on the 170 metre high cable-stayed Dari Bridge. According to media reports, the MSRDC aims to complete the project in the next four months.

The Missing Link Project includes construction of a new eight –level road that has two tunnels and two viaducts. An alternative route reducing the 6 km detour through Bhor Ghat is being constructed. Presently, the distance between Khopoli to Kusgaon is 19 km and with this project operational the distance will be reduced by 6 km. This will reduce time travel from Mumbai to Pune by 25 minutes.

Also, in a bid to prevent accidents, new speed limits have been set up for vehicles on the Yashwantrao Chavan Expressway, popularly known as the Mumbai Pune Expressway.

The change in speed limit is because of the shift required in speed from flat expressway to slope expressway where if the drivers do not reduce the speed from 100 km/hr to 50 km/hr, it will be risky.

According to the traffic notification issued, this change is applicable to the Bhor Ghat section and the entire Mumbai Pune Expressway route. The entire stretch will be monitored by CCTV cameras and strict action will be taken against violators.

Category of vehicles Speed limit
