The Nagpur Metro has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the longest double-decker viaduct metro of 3.14 km on the Wardha Road. Maha Metro MD Brijesh Dixit received a certificate for the achievement from judge and adjudicator of Guinness World Records Rishi Nath at an event at the Metro Bhawan. Note that before this, the Nagpur Metro was also named in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records respectively for the longest double-decker viaduct in Asia and India,
As part of this construction feat, an 18.9-metre-wide steel girder has been used across live railway tracks that are 28 metres high from the ground. The double-decker viaduct has three metro stations namely Chhatrapati Nagar, Jai Prakash Nagar and Ujjwal Nagar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the remaining routes in the Nagpur Metro first phase (Line 1 and Line 2) on December 11, 2022.
Nagpur Metro’s Line-1 includes Kasturchand Park to Automotive Square and Line 2 includes Jhansi Rani Square to Prajapati Nagar. Nagpur Metro consists of a four-level transportation corridor. The first level will include the existing vehicular and pedestrian underpass. On top of this will be the railway tracks that form the second level. The third level will be the national highway and the Nagpur metro line will be the fourth level of the transportation corridor.
After inaugurating the Nagpur Metro, the PM will also inaugurate the phase 1 of Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai Nagpur expressway) from Nagpur to Shirdi.
