Authority to buy land directly from farmers for New Noida project

The authority can purchase 25% of the total area directly from landowners. The remaining land will be purchased through the Land Acquisition Act 2013.

The Noida authority will acquire 21,000 hectare of agricultural land across 86 villages of Bulandshahr and Gautam Budh Nagar district for the New Noida project, a part of the draft Master Plan 2041. The New Noida project is being developed to address the long-term infrastructure and socio-economic growth of the region. It will come up in the Dadri-Sikandrabad area, a crucial industrial hub in the state.

As per officials, the land procurement process for the upcoming project will be through direct buying from farmers, without implementing the Land Acquisition Act 2013, to avoid the long process involved in acquiring land.

The authority can purchase at least 25% of the total area directly from the landowners, as per the rules. However, the remaining land must be purchased through the Land Acquisition Act 2013. The decision to purchase agricultural land for the project was made after the authority realised that the demand for land for industries, universities, and other projects is growing and no vacant land is available in Noida city, they said.

Under the draft Master Plan 2041, the Noida authority has reserved areas for universities, industries, financial offices, and residential developments. Of the 21,000 hectare, it has allocated 8,111 hectare for industries, 2,000 hectare for residential developments and 1,662 hectare for institutes, including universities and medical colleges. The city expansion project will cater to 6 lakh residents.

The land buying process may start in July 2023 after completion of all formalities.
