March 4, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway on March 11, 2024, subject to clearance from the department, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on March 2, 2024, as cited in media reports.
This will be the PM’s second visit to Haryana in a month. Earlier on February 16, 2024, the PM visited Rewari to lay the foundation stones of AIIMS and the Gurgaon Metro Rail project.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials, around 99% of the work on the Gurgaon section of the expressway has been completed, with around 90% completed in the Delhi segment.
The Haryana section of the expressway is an 18.9-km-long stretch from the border to Kherki Daula. The project cost is estimated to be Rs 9,000 crore. The 10.1-km Delhi section of the expressway is currently under construction.
The 27.6-km Dwarka expressway will connect Dwarka in Delhi to Kherki Daula in Gurgaon. The expressway is expected to provide easy connectivity from Gurgaon to Delhi’s IGI Airport. The project includes tunnels, underpasses, flyovers and elevated structures. There is a unique 34-metre-wide elevated road supported by single pillars over a length of 9 km.
The development of the Dwarka Expressway is being undertaken in four phases, which includes different segments:
- Shiv Murti in Mahipalpur to Bijwasan – 5.9 km
- Bijwasan ROB to Delhi-Haryana border in Gurgaon – 4.2 km
- Delhi-Haryana border to Basai ROB – 10.2 km
- Basai to Kherki Daula cloverleaf interchange – 8.7 km
The estimated cost for the first phase in Delhi is Rs 2,507 crore, while the cost is Rs 2,068 crore for the second phase, Rs 2,228 crore for the third phase and Rs 1,859 crore for the fourth phase. The Dwarka Expressway has been designed as an elevated eight-lane access-controlled expressway, the first of its kind in the country.
