May 8, 2024: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a pilot survey program through which it aims to understand why the 40% property tax exemption on self-occupied properties offered by the municipal body hasn’t seen as many claims as the local body expected. This program has been initiated in Hingane, Vadgaon and Dhayari areas in Pune city. Survey details of 1,100 properties have already been collected by the municipal body.
According to media reports, while around 2, 64,000 property owners are eligible for availing the discount, over 1, 90,000 residents have not availed of this offer.
This survey program aims to find the pain points that people face due to which they have not availed of this offer.
This project is managed by Ravindra Dhaware, an administrative officer, who is leading a team of five divisional inspectors and ten Peth inspectors. This team is responsible for detailed on-site verifications to ensure the process is transparent and findings can be understood.
The Maharashtra government had in 1970 announced the rebate which was stalled in 2019. Following objections from the public, the government reversed its decision last year and all people who would want to avail of the scheme had to fill and submit the PT-3 form.
