July 31, 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1, 2023 will lay the foundation stone of around 6,400 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) houses at Chikali area, Pimpri-Chinchwad to be constructed by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The PM will also be laying the foundation stone for 1,190 PMAY houses to be constructed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
After laying the foundation stone, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will soon start with construction of these 6,400 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in section 12, Chikali area, Pimpri-Chinchwad. The estimated cost for this project is around Rs 900 crore.
The authority recently got environmental clearance for this second phase of the project and is waiting for permission from Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, as per an IE report.
Phase-1 of this project in section 12, Chikali area, Pimpri-Chinchwad has 4,883 houses under PMAY. These include houses for EWS and LIG segments, which have all been allotted. While a flat under the EWS category costs Rs 9 lakh, a flat under the LIG category costs Rs 32 lakh. While the phase-1 of this project was delayed owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the second phase is expected to be completed in two years. The flats will be then allotted via a lottery system.
Meanwhile, PMRDA will also submit the draft development plan to the planning committee before finally presenting it to state government for approval.
