Rapid Metro to connect Ghaziabad RRTS to Noida Airport

The 72.26-km RapidX-cum-metro route will comprise 38 stations.

February 28, 2024: A 72.26-kilometre Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor will connect Ghaziabad’s RRTS and the upcoming Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on February 23, 2023, said that the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) will soon complete the detailed project report (DPR) of RapidX-cum-metro route and submit it by April 4, 2024, according to a News18 report.

Officials of the Yeida and NCRTC discussed the alignment of the project at Greater Noida’s sector Omega-I, the report said.

The proposed RapidX-cum-metro route will pass through Ghaziabad RRTS station, Greater Noida (Sector 2), Greater Noida West (Sector 4), Ghaziabad South, Greater Noida (Sector 12), Yeida North (Sector 18), Yeida Central (Sector 21, 35), Pari Chowk, Surajpur, Ecotech VI, Dankaur and Noida International airport at GTC (ground transportation centre).

The 72.26-km RapidX-cum-metro route will comprise 38 stations. However, according to the present DPR, there are 25 stations on which work will start in the initial phase, a senior YEIDA officer said, as cited in the report.

YEIDA chief executive officer Arun Vir Singh said, “The DPR suggests 25 stations, among which 11 are designated for RapidX-cum-metro while 14 stations are exclusively for metro stoppages, as cited in a Hindustan Times report. He said 25 stations will be developed in the initial phase, while the remaining 13 stations will be developed in later phases.

Arun Vir Singh said that the work on the project will be taken to the next stage once the UP government and the Centre give all required approvals.

The project is expected to reduce travel time between Noida International Airport and Indira Gandhi Airport. The NCRTC has designed the operation of RapidX in such a way that the journey can be completed in about 45 minutes by high-speed Rapid Rail with a maximum speed of 140 km per hour.

In December 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government finalised the RRTS route.
