The height of the ceiling should be around 10 foot. Anything that is lesser in height than this will hinder the flow of positivity in the house.
Ceiling is known as the sky element according to Vastu Shastra principles. So, one should use colours that complement or strengthen this element. Thus, the colours that can be used are pale yellow, powder blue or shades of white. Never used dark colours on the ceiling as these may attract negativity and spread it around the house.
Chandeliers and pendant lights are commonly chosen to lighten up the room and the décor. However, if you install these, ensure that you keep them clean always. A lamp is said to brighten all the directions. However, if the lamp itself is dirty with cob webs or dust, it does not help with bringing any positivity to the house.

In case you are constructing a house on a plot of land, a ceiling with a higher centre and lower corners are considered auspicious.
False ceiling is a trend that most people follow and opt for these days. If you have opted ensure that you maintain them with light colours and keep them clean. Also, false ceilings of irregular shapes should be avoided as per Vastu principles. Also, do not opt a sloping ceiling.
While mirror is an important element in home décor, never use it on your ceilings. These are completely against the principles of Vastu.
