Most Indian homes have a pooja room, a place of tranquillity and positive energy. Idols of gods, lamps, holy books, flowers, etc., are among the essential things to be kept in a mandir, according to Vastu Shatra. More importantly, keeping water in a vessel is a must. Water has been regarded sacred in Hinduism, whether it is from the holy rivers such as Gangajal or the normal tap water in the house. Water is needed for every ritual. Thus, there are several reasons why it should be kept in the pooja room.
Reasons to keep water in the pooja room
Purification
According to Vastu and Hindu traditions, before the deities are worshipped, it is necessary to bathe the idols with water and sprinkle water in the room to purify it.
Tulsi water
A few Tulsi leaves are kept in water in a mandir, which purifies the space and pleases the deities. Achamana, which is the ritual of sipping water before beginning puja, is performed with Tulsi water. Moreover, Tulsi is known for its medicinal properties and drinking Tulsi water purifies the body and mind.
Varun dev
In Hinduism, Lord Varuna, the god of water and oceans, is present in the form of water. Keeping water in the mandir is believed to please Lord Varuna, who protects the world and brings prosperity to the household.
Naivedya
After the daily pooja, we offer prasad or naivedya such as fruits, sweets or panchamrit to the deities. After offering naivedya, water is offered to gods, which is considered to invite prosperity.
Aarti
Water is added to the Aarti plate to cool it down and it is sprinkled in all four directions. Charanamrit, which is the water used to wash the feet of the deities, is also offered to everyone after a puja.
Vastu tips to keep water in the pooja room
According to Vastu, keeping a pot of water in the place of worship ensures prosperity and promotes positive energies. One should keep Vastu principles in mind when placing water in the pooja room.
- Place the water vessel in the north or northeast corner of the house.
- Choose a copper or any metal vessel for storing the water. Copper is an ideal choice as it is considered to absorb negativity. It is also known to have health benefits.
- Make sure to change the water regularly.
