Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai announced that Metro operations to the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru will start by the end of 2023. The Metro project is being personally monitored by him to meet the deadline, he said.
The infrastructural work is underway at a rapid pace. There were delays in the project due to the major commercial and residential establishments on the metro route. The government is addressing these obstacles, he added.

The Airport Line, developed under Namma Metro Phase 2B is a 39-km long corridor starting at Krishnarajapura (KR Puram). It will be aligned along the northern part of Outer Ring Road (ORR) via localities like Nagawara, Hebbal and Jakkur before connecting with the airport.
The CM has asked officials to advance the deadline for Bangalore Metro Phase 2 from 2025 to 2024. According to Bommai, the 15.81-km Reach 1 Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield section will be ready by March 2023, the 2.05-km Reach 2 extension Kengeri to Challaghatta section by May 2023 and the 3.14-km Reach 3 extension Nagasandra to Madavara will be ready by August 2023. The 19.15-km Reach 5 RV Road to Bommasandra section will be opened by September 2023 and the 21.26-km Reach 6 Kalendra Agrahara to Nagawara stretch by March 2025. The Phase 2 Metro project will be developed at a total cost of Rs 30,695.12 crore.
