The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is developing the Namma Metro to boost connectivity in the city and ease traffic congestion on the roads.

Bangalore Metro Phase 3, which will cover a distance of 44.65 km, will come up along the entire stretch of the Outer Ring Road (ORR). As cited in reports, Karnataka Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said the first metro rail line under Namma Metro Phase 3 would be constructed from Hebbal to JP Nagar, around 32.15 km long.

The second line will cover areas such as Gorguntepalya, Magadi Road, Mysuru Road and JP Nagar. The remaining length of around 12.5 km under Namma Metro Phase 3 will also pass along Hosahalli to Magadi Road and then to Kadabagere. It will pass from JP Nagar to Silk Board, Silk Board to KR Puram and from KR Puram to Hebbal. It will continue from Hebbal and cross Tumakuru Road near Dr Rajkumar’s memorial. It will cross Magadi Road, Mysuru Road, Kanakapura Road, and join JP Nagar. It will cover the entire Outer Ring Road, Gowda said, as cited in reports.

The state government will bear 80 to 85% cost of the metro project. We expect 13 to 15% from the Centre, as per reports. The Centre has also given a go-ahead for the expansion of the line and a feasibility test has also been conducted, the revenue minister said.

The government expects the overall metro ridership to increase once Bangalore Metro Phase 3 becomes operational.
