September 1, 2023: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has said in an official statement that it has planned to operate additional train services between the Mahatma Gandhi Road and the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Majestic metro stations starting today. This is aimed at accommodating high passenger footfall during weekdays.
The BMRCL also plans to extend the additional services to other metro lines in the city. The agency has said that the additional trips would be operated only till the MG Road Metro Station and those who want to travel to Baiyappanahalli should take another metro train at MG Road Metro Station.
The existing Purple Metro Line in Bangalore has witnessed overcrowding in recent times, especially during peak hours, as mentioned in media reports.
The Purple Line of the Bangalore Metro is being developed with 15 metro stations. Once completed, the Purple Line will be 42.53 kilometre (km) long. Further, the BMRCL has started trial runs on the 2.5-km Byappanahalli-KR Puram Metro section. This section is the missing link on the Purple Line and will link Kengeri-Byappanahalli and KR Puram-Whitefield once operational. The Kengeri-Challaghatta section is scheduled to be operational in September 2023.

Bangalore Metro to extend up to Devanahalli and other towns
In a move to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity, BMRCL will extend the metro network to outlying towns – Doddaballapur, Nelamangala, Devanahalli and Hoskote, according to media reports.
