The government has extended the last date to link Voter IDs with Aadhaar cards to March 31, 2024, from the April 1, 2023. Following the passing of the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha in December 2021, linking of Voter ID with Aadhaar has been made authorised. While the linking of the Voter ID and Aadhaar card is not mandatory, the linking will help in “identification of registration of the name of the same person in more than one constituency or more than once in the same constituency”, says the Election Commission.
