February 8, 2024: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved an annual Budget of Rs 8,811 crore for FY2024-25, focusing on civic infrastructure and sports facilities, according to media reports. As cited in reports, lieutenant governor V K Saxena said the authority will undertake several developmental projects during the next financial year focusing on better housing, aesthetic upgradation of the landscape and restoration and preservation of the city’s heritage.
The proposed expenditure in the next financial year, 2024-25, for these projects will be financed from the revenues projected at Rs 9,182 crore, an estimated increase of around 19%.
Allocation for infrastructure
A budget allocation of Rs 3,460 crore has been made for the development of land and physical infrastructure, which includes roads, sewerage, water supply, power lines, drainage, beautification and streetscaping, mainly in the vacant portion of land in the sub-cities of Narela, Dwarka, Rohini and other localities.
The DDA is also implementing the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan for the development of urbanised villages within Delhi. The authority has allotted Rs 600 crore for creating infrastructure and Rs 300 crore in BE 2024-25 and RE 2023-24, respectively.
Allocation for sports facilities
Focusing on a healthy and fit Delhi, provision has been made through investment in the construction of sports complexes. A new sports complex is being proposed for Narela. A budget of Rs 266 crore and Rs 196 crore have been made in BE 2024-25 and RE 2023-24 for these sports facilities, respectively.
Allocation for housing
A budget allocation of Rs 1,953 crore has been made for ongoing housing projects across Delhi, aimed at providing pucca houses to slum dwellers through in-situ redevelopment and rehabilitation.
