Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line is one of the busiest routes on the Delhi Metor Rail Network (DMRC) network for two reasons. First, the Yellow Line connects the national capital with NCR’s commercial hub, Gurgaon. Second, within Delhi, the Yellow Line connects some of the most important commercial hubs like Connaught Place, Chandni Chowk and Chawri Bazar and transit networks like New Delhi Railway Station and the Old Delhi Railway Station. The Yellow Line Metro Route also connects Delhi’s power centres – Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk and the North Campus (Delhi University) through the Vishva Vidyala Metro Station. North Delhi’s industrial hubs are also connected through this line.
That way, this 48.8-km-long Yellow Line could be called Delhi’s lifeline.

Delhi Metro Yellow Line: Latest updates
Speed on Chhattrapur-Sultanpur stretch reduced temporarily
April 2, 2024: The DRMC on April 2, 2024, announced that the speed of trains on the Chhattrapur and Sultanpur stretch of the Delhi Metro Yellow Line would be reduced in view of the tunnel construction for work for the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor. The speed on the affected corridor will be lowered from 25 KMPH to 20 KMPH.
“Taking into consideration the issue of passenger convenience speed restriction imposed between Chhatarpur & Sultanpur, it has now been revised to 25 KMPH. Speed is being regulated here because of tunnelling work below this section on the Aerocity Tughlakabad corridor,” DMRC said in a post on X, previously Twitter. “Necessary announcements are being made inside the system and the movement of trains has been regulated accordingly to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the commuters,” it added in another post.
Cabinet approves 2 corridors of Delhi Metro Phase-IV projects
March 13, 2023: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today approved two new corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project which are expected to further improve the Metro connectivity in the national capital. These two corridors include a 12.377-km section between Inderlok and Indraprastha and another 8.385-km stretch between Lajpat Nagar and Saket G Block.
Eight new interchange stations will come up on these corridors at Inderlok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Dilli and Saket G Block. These stations will significantly improve the interconnectivity among all the operational lines of the Delhi Metro network.
DMRC extends UPI payment facility across network
August 3, 2023: The Delhi Metro on August 3 extended the option of payment by Unified Payments Interface (UPI) at its ticket vending machines (TVMs) and ticket/customer care counters across the network. “With the upgrade of machines at its stations across the Delhi-NCR network, passengers can now make payments to recharge smart cards/purchase metro QR tickets using UPI–supported mobile applications through smart phones as is done nowadays in every walk of life, be it at shopping malls, grocery store, vegetable vendor, etc. The option eliminates the need to carry cash or debit/credit cards and thereby reducing the load on their wallets,” the DMRC said in a statement. The DMRC was the first metro system in the country to initially start this UPI facility on select TVMs on Noida and Ghaziabad section in 2018.
