In 2015, Jaipur became the sixth city in India to have metro connectivity. Operated by the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC), this metro rail network currently links the eastern part of the city with the west. In the upcoming phases, the north-south corridor of Jaipur metro is expected to further boost connectivity in the state capital of Rajasthan.
Why metro route was decided in Jaipur?
- The idea of commencing metro connectivity in Jaipur came into being, keeping in mind the rapid development of commercial and industrial zones in the city.
- Jaipur’s population has grown exponentially in the past decade, due to its booming employment market.
- To boost public transport infrastructure, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was brought on board as a consultant, to help the JMRC plan the Jaipur metro network.
- The construction work on the Jaipur Metro Pink Line began in February 2011. Soon, Jaipur Metro became the fastest metro network in the country to reach the trial run stage after starting construction.

Jaipur Metro route: Pink Line and Orange Line
There are two phases of Jaipur Metro. Phase-I of Jaipur Metro route includes the Pink line while Phase-II of Jaipur Metro route contains the Orange Line. Jaipur Metro Phase-I is further divided into three parts, out of which two Jaipur Metro routes are operational while the third is under-consideration. Jaipur Metro route of Phase-II is currently under-construction.

Jaipur Metro Phase-1A
This was the Jaipur Metro route on the Jaipur Metro network to become operational. This Jaipur Metro route connects Mansarovar to Chandpole. Phase-1A of the Jaipur network is 9.63 km long. The Jaipur Metro route was completed in 2014 but the public operations started in June 2015. The stations in this Jaipur Metro route are

Jaipur Metro Phase-1B
This is the extended part of Jaipur Metro Phase-1A, as it connects Chandpole to Badi Chaupar. This Jaipur Metro route also marks the completion of the Pink Line from Mansarovar Metro Station to Badi Chaupar via Civil Lines and Chandpole. This Jaipur Metro route was opened for public use in September 2020. The total length of this stretch is 2.3 km.

Jaipur Metro Phase-1C
This is an extension of the Pink Line till Transport Nagar from Badi Chaupar. The total length of this Jaipur Metro route will be 2.85 km. The DMRC will be the general consultant for this corridor. There will be three stations in this Jaipur metro route from Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar and the route is expected to be completed by March 2025.
The foundation stone for this was to be laid by January 2024.
Jaipur Metro Phase-1D
On January 21, 2023, the DMRC was appointed as general consultant for Mansarovar to 200 ft Bypass, Ajmer Road (Phase 1D). DMRC will offer consultancy regarding on the quality aspects and help in timebound project completion.- The foundation stone for metro phase- 1D was laid on March 15,2024. Media reports suggest that the project will be around Rs 204.81 crore.
Jaipur Metro Phase-II
Currently under construction, Phase-II of the Jaipur metro will connect the Sitapura Industrial Area with Ambabari via the Ajmeri Gate and the MI Road. The total length of this stretch, with 20 stations, also known as the Orange Line, is 23 kms.

Jaipur Metro route timing
The Jaipur Metro timing is between 5:2o AM and 22: 21 PM. The Jaipur Metro operates at a frequency of 10 -15 minutes with alterations based on peak and non-peak hour. At each metro station, along the Jaipur metro route, the metro halts for 20-40 seconds.
