Johnny lever was born on April 25, 1957, in a Telugu Christian family in Andhra Pradesh. He married Sujata Lever in 1984, and the couple has a son, Jessey Lever, and a daughter, Jamie Lever. His father worked for Hindustan Lever Ltd., and his mother was a housewife. He is the eldest among his siblings. The actor studied at the Andhra Education Society but could not study beyond seventh grade due to financial hardship in the family. After dropping out of school, he started doing odd jobs and used to sell pens on the streets of Mumbai.
Johnny Lever’s rise to stardom has been a rags to riches story as the actor once lived in Mumbai’s Dharavi, known as Asia’s biggest slum. He utilised his natural talent for mimicking famous cine stars of the Mumbai film industry, which began to garner people’s attention. He learnt comedy acting in his hometown and used his talent to mimic the senior management personnel at Hindustan Lever, where he used to work for some time.
