Maharashtra fixes Rs 1,000 stamp duty on PMAY home lease deeds

This cabinet decision will benefit the EWS and LIG beneficiaries of the PMAY scheme.

The state Cabinet on November 29, 2022, approved the Maharashtra government’s move to fix stamp duty of Rs 1,000 on lease agreements for housing units built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). The state charges 5% on lease agreement registration.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde. The cabinet decision will benefit the EWS and LIG beneficiaries of the PMAY scheme.

“The decision has been taken in public interest in exercise of the powers under Clause A of Section 9 of the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958. This stamp duty is fixed subject to the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement for residential flats,” said CMO office.
