August 2, 2023: The Mhada Konkan board has started the process of obtaining occupancy certificate (OC) from Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) for its Mhada Balkum Housing Scheme as the construction work of 17-storey parking lot in this project has been completed, states a Loksatta report. Once OC is received, the Mhada lottery winners of the Balkum Housing Scheme will immediately be given possession of the house, once they pay the remaining amount of the unit.
Mhada held a lucky draw for 197 houses in the Mhada Balkum Housing Scheme in 2018. While the building was complete, the TMC rejected the occupancy certificate owing to lack of proper parking facility. Thus possession for these units could not be given. As advised by the TMC, a 17-storey parking garage was constructed to solve the parking issues of the project.
As per the Lokasatta report, chief officer, Mhada Konkan Board, Maruti More said that with the parking lot finally completed, the process of obtaining the occupancy certificate has started. This certificate will be available in the next few days.
While the board solved the parking problem, the cost of construction of parking was passed to the lottery winners along with other charges. Thus, the prices of houses in Balkum was increased by Rs 16 lakh in September 2022. Houses that were around Rs 43,45,236 is now around Rs 59,74,800.
To help winners make the payment comfortably, Konkan MHADA offered the beneficiaries a scheme.
