MMRDA gets 15 ha land for Mumbai Metro 6 depot

Presently, almost 65% of work on Metro Line 6 is completed. However, till the depot is constructed, operations of Metro 6 cannot begin.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has got possession of 15 hectare of land in Kanjurmarg from the Mumbai suburban collector for development of the Mumbai Metro Line 6 depot.  The MMRDA will float tender for construction of the depot before April-end 2023.

As the MMRDA takes possession of the land, it also has to submit an undertaking to the suburban collector that it will be responsible for all legal liabilities in future regarding compensation or any other issue.  The land is under litigation, with the state government and the Centre’s salt commissioner both claiming ownership.

Also known as Pink line, the 15.31-km Metro Line 6 will have 13 elevated stations and will ply between Swami Samarth Nagar and Vikhroli and will pass through Jogeshwari, Western Express Highway and Powai. It will have interchange with Metro Line 2A at Shastri Nagar (infinity Mall), Metro Line 7 at JVLR, Metro Line 3 at Seepz area and Metro Line 4 at Kanjurmarg (W).

Almost 65% of work on Metro Line 6 is completed.  However, till the depot is constructed, operations of Metro 6 cannot begin.
