MMRDA proposes fee on new units along Mumbai Metro Line 7: Report

The transit-oriented development fee is yet to be decided by the MMRDA.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) in a proposal to the urban development department has asked for levying a transit-oriented development (TOD) charge on properties coming up within a 200-m radius of Mumbai Metro Line 7, a Hindustan Times report mentioned.  The TOD will be applicable on both residential and commercial properties.

The TOD fee is yet to be decided by the MMRDA.

“We are exploring the concept of TOD in a big way and have taken Metro 7 as a pilot,” said S V R Srinivas, metropolitan commissioner, MMRDA. If approved, MMRDA can replicate the project prototype in other mass-transit projects in the city and can earn a revenue of around Rs 10,000 crore.

Partial operations of the Mumbai Metro 7 started Phase 1 operations in April 2022 and the operations on the entire line began in January 2023. Also known as Red line, Mumbai Metro 7 has 13 stations namely Gundavali, Mogra, Jogeshwari (East), Goregaon (East), Aarey, Dindoshi, Kurar, Akurli, Poisar, Magathane, Devipada, Rashtriya Udyan and Ovaripada. The construction of the entire project cost around Rs 6,208 crore.
