Complete operations of Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 started from January 2023.

The phase-1 of the Mumbai Metro Line 2A and Line 7 was inaugurated on April 2, 2022. While Line 2A operated between Dahisar and Dhanukarwadi, Mumbai Metro 7 operated from Dahisar to Aarey colony. The average daily ridership of 30,000 passengers has been recorded by MMMOCL, which takes care of the metro operations and maintenance.

Mumbai Metro Line 2A and 7: Opening date

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the phase-2 of Mumbai Metro lines 2A and 7 on January 19, 2023. Modi boarded the Metro from the Gundavali station and took a ride of the metro. Modi travelled from Gundavali to Mogra and back in the newly-inaugurated Mumbai Metro train.

Mumbai Metro lines 2A and 7 was made operational by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) from January 20, 2023. With these two metro lines, Mumbai has a total of 3 metro lines that are operational namely the Blue line, Yellow line and Red line.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7: Station names changed

MMRDA has changed the names of three stations on Line 2A and 7, as per a notification issued.  The new name for Pahad Eksar metro station is ‘ Shimpoli’, Valnai metro station is Valnai-Meeth Chowky and Pahadi Goregaon is Bangur Nagar.

The Mumbai Metro ticket fare is based on the distance travelled. The ticket fare for Mumbai Metro Line 2A and Line 7 is Rs 10 for 3 km. Maximum fare for the Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 is Rs 50.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2 A and 7: Insurance coverage for passengers

An annual comprehensive insurance policy has been secured by the  Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) for all passengers travelling by Mumbai Metro 2A and 7.

Only passengers on Mumbai Metro 2A and 7 with valid ticket are secured under this policy. These passengers have to be present in the Mumbai Metro station building or in the metro train or anywhere on the station premises that include paid and unpaid areas.  People in areas outside the metro like parking, auto stand, footover bridge etc. are not covered under the insurance policy.

The insurance policy includes outpatient department treatment for  up to Rs 10,000 and up to Rs 1 lakh for hospitalisation.  It also will provoide up to Rs 4 lakh and up to Rs 5 lakh for  partial and permanent disability and  mortality respectively.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2 A and 7: Solar panels to be set on stations

Solar panels are proposed to be set on the two Mumbai Metro lines  – 17 stations on Line 2A and 13 stations on Line 7, as per an IE report. While the solar panels on the Line 2A  stations will generate 2,600 kW energy, the panels above the Line 7 stations will add 2,000 kW energy. Additionally, with MMRDA making roof of the Charkop depot available for solar panels, this will generate 2,500 kw energy. The total solar energy to be produced is estimated to be around 7,100 kw.

Mumbai Metro Lines offer 25% concession to select categories 

Starting May 1, 2023, people with Mumbai One passes and belonging to senior citizen ( 65 years and above), student or specially abled category can avail a discount of 25% on Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7. This is available for 45 or 60 trips. To avail this service, users need to submit their age proof and divyang certificate at any of the ticket windows of Metro lines 2A and 7.

Any residential project that is near to an infrastructural development always sees an increase in demand. Properties near the metro stations has already seen a surge in property prices.

Also, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has sent a proposal to levy a transit-oriented development (TOD) charge on properties that are being constructed within a  200-m radius of Mumbai Metro Line 7, a HT report stated.

Mumbai Metro Lines 2 A, 7 offer 10% discount on Mumbai polling day

The Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) in an official release on May 3 announced a 10% discount on tickets for commuters on May 20 when Mumbai goes to polls in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

This discount will be available for passengers travelling on the Metro Line 2A and Line 7.As per the release, the commuters using Mumbai One cards, paper QR and paper tickets to travel to polling stations can avail of the 10% discount on the base fare on their return journey after voting.

This initiative is expected to boost the voter turnout through the systematic voter education and electoral participation (SVEEP) programme.
