Mumbai police issues advisory for property owners to submit tenant details

Property owners flouting this order are punishable under section 188 of IPC, 1860.

Vishal Thakur, DCP, Operations, Mumbai Police on January 4, 2023, issued an advisory for property owners renting out their properties. According to the advisory property owners should furnish details of their tenants online. The advisory is effective from January 6, 2023, till March 6, 2023 and is part of a routine exercise, which is issued every 2 months. Property owners flouting this order are punishable under section 188 of IPC, 1860.

Particulars of the tenants should be submitted immediately on www.mumbaipolice.gov.in. On the website, click on ‘Report Us’ and then on ‘Tenant Information’. Fill the online form and submit.  Alternatively, property owners can submit the detailed information by going to the local police station.

Owing to the presence of anti-social elements in certain pockets of Mumbai, there may be disturbance to the social peace of the city and damage to public property. The police said it’s necessary to do some checking on the landlords/tenants so that terrorists/anti-social elements in the guise of tenants do not become the cause of subversive activities or riots.
