Mumbai Trans Harbour Link: Test drive

On May 24, 2023, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis took a test drive on the MTHL during its inspection.

The ‘longest sea bridge in the country’, the MTHL is 22-km long, of which 16.5 km is above the sea. The MTHL will be the first in the country to have an Open Road Tolling (ORT) system.

MMRDA on January 11, 2023, also successfully launched the first longest Orthotropic Steel Deck (OSD) of around 22 km in package-2 of the MTHL. The first longest OSD of package-2 between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai is 180- metre and weighs 2,300 metric tonne. Of the 32 OSD spans that the MTHL package-2 has, 15 spans have already been launched.

MMRDA is the implementing agency of the Rs 17,000-crore project, which is financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
