The UTTIPEC is responsible for promoting safety related to traffic in the Delhi-NCR

Established by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Centre (UTTIPEC) is responsible for promoting safety related to traffic, reducing traffic congestion and easing mobility in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This exercise is carried out, by adopting approved transport planning practices, building capacity, introducing enforcement measures, traffic engineering practices, audits with respect to road safety and better traffic management, among other measures. The regulations were further altered after a year (vide SO No. 2065(E) on 07.08.2009).

Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Centre: Mission

  • To study the practiced norms and approved standards for planning and engineering procedures in traffic and transportation.
  • To study and engineer aspects of implementation of the Master Plan of Delhi’s proposals pertaining to transportation and the National Transport Policy 2006.
  • To solve the parking problems, by formulating a parking policy.
  • To contribute to the infrastructure of having a sustainable public transport system.
  • To audit inventory of corridor-wise traffic and transportation issues.
  • To be a go-to place for all information regarding traffic and transportation plans and evaluating the suggestions given by the public.
  • Conceiving standards for street furniture, signages, hoardings, lighting, pedestrian passages, signals, roadside landscapes, trees, zebra crossings and commuter facilities.

 

Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Centre: Projects approved

  1. Transit plan for group housing colonies: The UTTIPEC, on March 19, 2021, approved the integrated transit plan that was conceived, to handle the increased vehicular traffic around the eight General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies in south Delhi’s Nauroji Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, Srinivaspuri, Netaji Nagar, Thyagraj Nagar, East Kidwai Nagar and Mohammadpur localities. Construction of a 14-km elevated corridor in south Delhi is part of this proposal, which is envisaged to provide smooth vehicular movement between Sarai Kale Khan and the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
  2. Multimodal integration plan for Karkardooma Delhi Metro Station: The 62nd governing body meeting also recently approved the multimodal integration proposal for the Karkardooma Delhi Metro Station.
