Uttar Pradesh allots Rs 2,441 crore for PMAY-G

UP constructed more than 28 lakh housing units in the rural areas in 2022-23.

February 8, 2024:  The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 2,441 crore for implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana –Gramin, mentioned a ToI report.  Under PMAY-G, pucca homes will be provided for homeless and poor families by 2024 end.

Note that this development comes close on heels with the announcement made by finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman at the interim Budget on February 1, 2024. The centre announced a target of building two crore PMAY-G houses by 2029. In the interim budget, the allocation to the PMAY-Gramin and Urban was increased to Rs 80,671 crore, including Rs 54,500 crore for PMAY-G, from Rs 79,590 crore in 2023-24.

According to the ToI report, in 2022-23, UP constructed more than 28 lakh housing units in the rural areas totalling to almost 96% of the target set for the fiscal. Subsequently, the state government allotted Rs 9,000 crore for the PMAY-G scheme in 2023-24.

The ToI report also mentioned that UP, along with Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, are being perceived as key states where maximum number of housing units are proposed to be constructed in 2024-25.
