All about Tamil Nadu Housing Board schemes

Here’s everything you need to know about TNHB’s ongoing and proposed housing schemes in Chennai, Madurai and other areas of the state

To provide affordable housing options to the citizens across urban areas in Tamil Nadu, the Chennai City Improvement Trust was re-established as the Tamil Nadu Housing Board in 1961.

The Tamil Nadu Housing Board is now responsible for creating housing stock in urban areas, to cater to the residential demand in the state. The Board is under the control of the Urban Development Department, which has already developed a number of townships in Chennai.

The Tamil Nadu Housing Board comes out with government housing schemes, to offer plots for commercial or residential use, for building educational institutions, or for other basic amenities. The pricing is based on the locality and the target income group that will benefit under the scheme. The Board is also responsible for reserving land for housing government employees. TNHB also creates housing options under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and offers subsidies to make home loans affordable. Interested parties can apply for the government housing schemes, when announced and within the stipulated time.
