The proposed metro route starts with an elevated corridor near the IT hub in Sarjapur.

January 16, 2024: The Bangalore Metro connectivity in the city has received a boost as the detailed project report (DPR) for the new line connecting Sarjapur and Hebbal is ready, as per a Times Now report. The metro line, covering a length of 37 kilometre, is expected to cost Rs 16,543 crore. The development was earlier outlined in the Comprehensive Mobility Plan 2020, which aims to ease travel for tech professionals in the city.

The proposed metro route starts with an elevated corridor near the IT hub in Sarjapur, transitioning underground upon reaching Koramangala. The route then covers the central business district through an intricate tunnel network, emerging on Ballari Road with elevated stations at Ganganagar and Hebbal.

Sarjapur-Hebbal line benefits

The Sarjapur-Hebbal line will be integrated with the existing metro lines at strategic points. At Iblur, the metro route will connect with the Blue Line, originating from the Central Silk Board junction and extending to Kempegowda International Airport. Dairy Circle will connect the Sarjapur-Hebbal line to the Pink Line, providing an easier commute to Bannerghatta Road or MG Road. Near KR Circle, the station will integrate with the operational Sir M Visvesvaraya station of the Purple Line. Near Hebbal, the metro connectivity will extend to the Bangalore Metro Blue Line, Phase-3 (Kempapura to JP Nagar) and the suburban rail station connecting Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara.

The upcoming metro route will reduce traffic congestion by covering core city areas. The route’s interlinking with existing metro lines under Phase 2A and B is expected to boost connectivity for Bangalore residents.

The proposed KR Circle metro station, near UVCE, will be connected with the Sir M Visvesvaraya metro station through a subway, enabling a smooth transition for the commuters.
