The Lucknow airport is one of the largest airports in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier called the Amausi Airport, it was rechristened as the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in 2008, named after the country’s fifth prime minister. The airport was granted an international airport status in May 2012.

Lucknow Airport Terminal-3 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10, 2024, inaugurated the Integrated Terminal-3 (T3) of the Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. Constructed at a cost of Rs 2,400 crore, the terminal is equipped to accommodate 4,000 passengers during peak hours. It will cater to both domestic and international flights.

In 2018, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the expansion and upgrade of the integrated terminals in Lucknow. The new integrated terminal (T3) has an area of 88,000 sqm and an annual capacity to handle 2.6 million international and 11 million domestic passenger traffic. The new terminal building would cater to the requirement of passenger growth up to 2030-31. Its capacity will be expanded to handle 38 million passengers per annum when the master plan is completed in 2047-48.

The airport started operations in 1986. At the time, it operated flights only to Mumbai and Delhi.

Lucknow Airport: Owner and management

The airport is owned and managed by business conglomerate, Adani Group. In November 2020, the Airport Authority of India lost ownership of the airport to Adani Group. Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) incorporated a 100% subsidiary, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL). AEL holds a 51% share in the airport and the remaining 49% is held by AAHL.
