Mumbai Metro 2B partial operations to start by 2024
March 9, 2023: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA)plans to start partial operations of the Mumbai Metro Line– 2B from Mandale Depot and Chembur in 2024. Operations will start for 5 stations that run to 5 km.
At present, around 70% of the alignment work between Mandale and Diamond Garden is complete. At the Mandale depot, more than 55% of civil work has been completed and a double-deck Metro car depot is being constructed over 31 acres that can hold at a time around 72 metro trains.
The remaining part of the 23.643 km the Mumbai Metro 2B that is planned from DN Nagar to Mandale will start operations later.
Mumbai Metro Line-2 is divided into Mumbai Metro Line 2A, which started complete operations recently and Mumbai Metro Line 2B which is divided in two phases- Mandale Depot to Chembur and Chembur to DN Nagar. Mumbai Metro 2B is one of the three Metro routes in the city that connects the Mumbai eastern suburbs to the western suburbs. Metro Line 2B is constructed at a cost of around Rs 10, 986 crore.

Mumbai Metro 5 corridor to be extended to Ulhasnagar
The MMRDA has plans to extend the Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Mumbai Metro-5 corridor or the Orange line from Kalyan to Ulhasnagar. A survey for the route will be done in the next 2 months, after which a DPR will be prepared. Once approved by the government, construction will start for the 8-km route.
