Amid rising pressure on existing infrastructure in India’s national capital Delhi, which forced authorities to find alternatives in the national capital region (NCR), the city of Noida came into existence on April 17, 1976, under the UP Industrial Area Development Act, 1976. The Noida Authority was created, to execute a planned development of a city that was once a land mass consisting of 36 villages of UP’s Bulandshahar district.
The name Noida is actually short for both, the city (New Okhla Industrial Development Area) and the authority that governs it (New Okhla Industrial Development Authority).
Objectives of Noida development authority
The official website of the Noida Authority lists various objectives for the development body. Among these, an important one is its responsibility to acquire land in the notified areas through the UP government under Land Acquisition Act, 1894.
Other objectives of the Noida Authority include:
- Preparing master plans for development of the area.
- Demarcating and developing sites for various land use.
- Allotting plots/properties as per regulations.
- Regulating building constructions.
- Setting up industries and providing infrastructure and amenities.

Under various schemes that are advertised from time to time, the Noida Authority allots land and properties for various categories, including industrial, commercial, institutional, residential and group housing.

How to make payments to Noida Authority?
All payments to the Noida Authority should be made through demand draft/pay order in one of the banks authorised by the Authority.
Provision has also been made, to accept online Noida Authority payments anywhere, at CBS/core banking branches of select banks. How to get your grievances redressed at Noida Authority?
At Noida Authority, the AGM, DGM, GM, project engineer or senior project engineer concerned, can be contacted between 10.00 AM and 1.00 PM on any working day, for redressal of grievances related to the allotted property or civic amenities. If one is not satisfied with their decision, one can submit a representation at the reception counter for consideration of the Grievance Redressal Committee. As a last resort, one can approach the CEO of the Noida Authority with a letter, which can be submitted on a working day between 12:00 AM and 1:30 PM.

Noida Authority scheme 2021 for affordable housing
The Noida Authority, in March 2021, launched a scheme to allot about 400 flats, built under the affordable housing scheme. These units, consisting of one-room and two-room flats, were built in 2013 under the affordable housing scheme launched by the then state government. One-room flats of 32 sq metres were priced at Rs 14.07 lakhs, while two-room flats of 71 sq metres cost Rs 30 lakhs.
