Violet line metro route details

The violet line metro route covers localities of South Delhi, parts of Central Delhi and Faridabad. The corridor covers a total distance of 43.3 km and includes 34 metro stations. The section between the ITO and the Kashmere Gate metro stations is called the Heritage line.

 

Purple line metro route first station: Kashmere Gate

The Kashmere Gate Metro Station is the first station on the violet line metro route in Delhi, connecting two metro lines and is the starting point for the third line. The metro station has all the latest features, including escalators and lifts for differently-abled travellers. The Kashmere Gate Metro Station is constructed on the elevated (Red Line) and underground (Yellow Line and Purple Line) metro tracks. It is in proximity to the Inter-State Bus Terminus Kashmere Gate. There are seven gates in this metro station:

  • Gate 1: MCD Park
  • Gate 2: Maharaja Agrasen Park
  • Gate 3: Mori Gate Bus Stand
  • Gate 4: Shamnath Marg
  • Gate 5: Kudasiya Park
  • Gate 6: ISBT Road
  • Gate 7: ISBT

The DMRC has added ten new escalators to nine metro stations, including Kashmere Gate Metro Station which now has a record number of 47 escalators.

Purple line metro route last station: Raja Nahar Singh

Raja Nahar Singh metro station is the last metro station on the Purple line metro route. Launched in November 2018, it was previously known as Ballabgarh. There are two platforms on this station and amenities such as a metro card vending machine and fire suppression system.

Violet line metro route: Construction timeline

  • October 2010: The 15.34-km stretch from Central Secretariat to Sarita Vihar became operational.
  • January 2011: A 4.82-km section from Sarita Vihar to Badarpur Border was opened.
  • June 2015: Mandi House to ITO section was opened.
  • September 2015: A fully elevated extension from Badarpur metro station was opened.
  • May 2017: The section from ITO to Kashmere Gate was opened.
  • November 2018: The 3.2-km extension from Escorts Mujesar to Ballabhgarh, Raja Nahar Singh metro stations, was opened.

 

Violet line metro route construction

The violet metro line, operated by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), has been developed with a standard gauge of 1,435 mm and an overhead catenary carrying 25 kv of electricity. The trains operate at a maximum speed of 100 km per hour. The metro corridor covers prominent economic hubs and markets of the city.

The DMRC will start the construction of the 23.6-km underground section of its Aerocity – Tughlakabad Silver Line corridor as part of the Delhi Metro Phase-4 project. There will be an interchange facility at the Tughlakabad station, and will be functional by 2025. The silver line will be connected to the violet metro line and airport line.

Violet line metro route timings

The violet line of the Delhi Metro network provides an affordable way to commute to other parts of the city. The train services begin from 6 am to 11:35 pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 4 am to 11:35 pm on Sundays. The trains run at a frequency of five minutes and cover the distance from Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh in one hour and 32 minutes.

Commuters can buy a ticket at any metro station or use the metro smart card for travelling on the Delhi metro violet line route. The metro fare from Kashmere Gate to Lal Quila metro stations starts at a minimum of Rs 10 and goes up to a maximum of Rs 60 for Raja Nahar Singh metro station.
