March 19, 2024: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is planning to build a 250-metre skywalk connecting the Yellow Line (RV Road- Bommasandra) and Blue Line (KR Puram- Kempegowda International Airport), bridging two of Bangalore’s key Metro networks. This skywalk will introduce the first travelator installation within Namma Metro.
This initiative aims to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion problem at the Central Silk Board Junction. By the end of May 2024, construction of three out of five ramps at the junction is projected to be finished, thus facilitating smoother traffic flow for vehicles heading from Jayanagar-BTM Layout towards HSR Layout and Electronics City. BMRCL anticipates that the completion of these new ramps will mitigate congestion caused by the heavy traffic at Silk Road Junction, where Outer Ring Road intersects with Hosur Road.
The vision for the Silk Board Junction transcends merely constructing a skywalk. BMRCL, in partnership with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), envisages transforming the junction into a comprehensive transport hub. This ambitious project entails establishing two bus stations, two-wheeler parking facilities, designated pick-up and drop-off zones, and a multi-level parking infrastructure. These endeavours are geared towards crafting a seamless and integrated commuting experience for travellers.
