Mumbai Metro Lines 3: Project details
The Mumbai Metro 3 project is a 50:50 partnership between the Government of Maharashtra (GoM) and Government of India (GoI). The project was approved in 2018 and the estimated project cost is Rs 33,405 crore. Once completed, the 33.5-km-long Mumbai Metro Line 3 will be the first underground metro line in Mumbai. The project has been financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with around 57.2% through ODA loan of Rs 13,235 crore that has to be repaid within 30 years at 1.15% rate of interest for project activities and 0.01% rate of interest for consulting services.

Phase-1 of the Mumbai Metro 3 from Aarey-JVLR to BKC was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5, 2024. According to media reports, phase -1 of Mumbai Metro 3 has a daily ridership of 22,000 passengers.
Mumbai Metro Line 3 Phase 2 to be open by April 2025
The phase 2 of the Mumbai Metro 3 Aqua Line between Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and Worli is expected to open for the public by the end of April or early May, 2025. This phase will cover six key stations of the Mumbai Metro Line 3 namely Dharavi, Shitladevi, Dadar, Siddhivinayak, Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk. The fare from Aarey to Acharya Atre Chowk is fixed at Rs 60.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 Phase 3 to be open by July 2025
The phase 3 of the of the Mumbai Metro 3 Aqua Line between Worli and Cuffe Parade spanning 13 km is expected to open for public by July 2025. Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis informed the Legislative Assembly on March 7, 2025 that 95% of the Mumbai Metro 3 is complete and security trails are being conducted. This route will improve connectivity to residential and cultural sites such as the St. Michael’s Church, the Shitladevi Temple and the Siddhivinayak Temple.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 route connectivity
- Mumbai Metro Line 3 is expected to reduce the traffic load by nearly 15%.
- Mumbai Metro Line 3 will run along Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor. It will connect key financial hubs, such as Nariman Point, Bandra-Kurla-Complex, Fort, Worli, Lower Parel, Goregaon, etc.
