Chandigarh Bhulekh: Everything you Need to Know

The Chandigarh administration, through its official website, enables property owners to check their land records online. Here is everything you need to know about Chandigarh land records.

To ease the process of land-related transactions, and reduce property frauds and disputes, the Chandigarh administration had started the digitisation of land records in 2013. The official website of the Chandigarh administration provides various online services, including the facility to access Chandigarh land records.

Recently, the UT Revenue Department of Chandigarh digitised land records of 25 villages under the Digital India land records modernisation programme (DILRMP). The DILRMP was launched by the Indian government to bring transparency to the land records maintenance system.

Until recently, all the Record of Rights (RoR) documents/jamabandis, were maintained manually by the patwari of the respective villages. The digitisation move enabled property owners to check and download the ownership records without the need to visit the sub-registrar’s office as the revenue records have been integrated with the office of the sub-registrar. This will enable online verification of revenue records and facilitate the mutation process, once the registration of documents is done at the sub-registrar’s office.

About the DILRMP scheme for UT Chandigarh

Chandigarh, the common capital of Punjab and Haryana, has a mix of urban and rural properties. While urban properties come under the jurisdiction of the Estate Office, the Municipal Corporation and Chandigarh Housing Board, rural properties are managed by the Chandigarh Revenue Department.

The updating of RoR was neglected for decades. The manual system of record-keeping had become cumbersome. To address these issues, the Chandigarh administration undertook initiatives to modernise the process of land records management, reduce instances of property disputes, and improve transparency in the land records maintenance system.

  • Development of core Geospatial Information System (GIS)
  • Survey/re-survey and updating of various survey and settlement records, which include the creation of original cadastral records, wherever required
