How to pay property tax in Karnal?

Here is everything you wanted to know about paying property tax in Karnal.

Houseowners in Haryana’s Karnal should pay property tax annually. However, new houseowners might have several questions pertaining to the property tax in Karnal. This guide will touch upon every aspect of property tax and its payment in Karnal.

What is property tax?

It is a direct tax imposed on property ownership. Property tax payments are source of income for infrastructural development in India. It is a compulsory levy that owners of immovable assets should pay on an annual basis. Property tax is primary revenue source for municipal corporations. All residential, commercial, industrial, institutional, and vacant lands situated under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations should pay property tax.

Importance of property tax

Paying property tax is intricately linked to establishing and maintaining the rightful ownership. The tax is determined based on recent property valuations done by municipal bodies. Property tax receipts play a pivotal role in resolving property disputes, serving as vital proof of ownership. To ensure a seamless transfer of ownership, it is imperative to update property titles in municipal records upon purchase. However, this process is contingent upon clearing any outstanding arrears. While registering a property in one’s name, documentation proving ownership must be provided, including a sale deed copy, society clearance, duly filled application, photo, address proof, and receipt of the last paid property tax. The property tax receipt serves as a crucial document for securing loan, such as loan against property.
