August 22, 2023: The Delhi Real Estate Regulatory Authority (DRERA) has issued a directive to builders to appoint an allottee grievance cell for each of their project with a dedicated telephone number to redress grievances of allottees. This order has to be complied with by September 30, 2023, mention media reports.
As per the directive, the developers should display name, address, RERA registration number of the project and details of the allottee grievance officer and allottee grievance cell with telephone numbers clearly at each project construction site.
Failure to comply with this order may attract penalty, a maximum of which is 5% of the estimated project cost for the developers under Section 61 of the RERA Act.
This step will create a one-point redressal mechanism at the level of the builder and is taken to help homebuyers get the right information about the project that they have invested in.
As per media reports, Anand Kumar, chairman, DRERA said, “It has come to our notice that some builders are selling non-RERA registered projects claiming that they have the required registration. With this mandatory provision to display registration numbers among other details on the construction site, it will be easy for the buyers to make an informed decision and identify the right project.”
On similar lines, developers in Maharashtra were directed by MahaRERA to set a grievance redressal cell recently.
